User-Contributed Transcription Dear LucyI suppose P & A are gone so you will get all the letters this time. I found the boat very crowded, and the sleeping accommodations so poor that I chose to stay on deck as long as there was any lady to stay with me but at last I went down into the cabin and succeeded in finding a place to lay my head though without any pillow: I slept pretty well, however and rose early enough to see the entrance into Portland, but soon I had to go below again with the sick headache; I was not sick; Indeed the sea was so very calm that hardly any one was sick. I had rather a dull day of it being obliged to lie down most all of the time till evening, but then we had a very pleasant time it was bright moonlight and the passage from Bucksport to Bangor you know is interesting. I found C waiting for me and without stopping we rode out to Moses by moonlight, arrived there at ten o'clock, found them all abed. Started next morning at six arrived home about noon. Found the folks well, but wondering greatly at the delay of a day in our coming. Mothers health is quite good now: little Olive helps a great deal, I verily believe she does more work than you do. She is very good natured & tries to please. Your posy patch exceeds my very highest expectations. I have gathered a nosegay almost every day of about twenty different kinds-under the window are the scarlet bean and sweet pea, and the two gorgeous marigold and chrysanthemums and several others one in full bloom. Charles is very busy about his harvesting & the boys have to work very hard. Eliab cut his hand pretty badly yesterday. Ann's geranium is alive but it got a real shaking she almost wishes she had leftMother & Ann Sept. 1839
