User-Contributed Transcription I suspect she has suffered felt more keenly more the past summer in consequence of Josephs embarrassment his distanc'd & doleful look and hints about his helping her etc. than he is aware of - on the other hand she has had to do a great deal for her scholars, to please them & thier parents and dress a great deal more necessarily than she would in some places. Charles has about as many vexations and perplexities as usual has not sold his oxen yet - you know how he borrow'd money bought Harness etc. He had a fine crop of Oats expects 300 bushels - But - when he had just begun to Harvest them he stuck a jackknife into his knee- Lame for a fortnight - meantime got what help he could - but they are part of them out in the field yet -grown skill'd out - and half wasted. It has rain'd so often that he could not possibly get em dry. 2 heifers died lately that he talked much upon for Cows. Sued for his taxes again etc. etc. Old Stove is worn out and Smokes so continually I can hardly live or breathe. He must get a new one. So much for the Sombre side He had let Pratt have 60 dollars worth of young Cattle towards paying for East lot. And has got one Cow, the Oxen worth 70 dollars & about 20 tons of Hay if he can sell them to good advantage he can begin to pay Joseph, his Dover note & Taxes etc. etc. Almeda is well her Children have been some unwell baby has been quite unwell 4 or 5 weeks. I spent most a week at Lucy's Mehitable was there all the time and Olive part of the time Came home with Maj. Furber Miserable old Slow horse with Mehitable to drive and most all the way in a pouring rain from 1/2 8 in the morning till 6 at night - rather dreary wasn't it. you dont know how bad I feel about Ann going away it seems as if I could not bear it tis so sudden and I dont know where she'll go I've shed more tears in three day, than in as many years before
