User-Contributed Transcription Father feels miserably tonight. He took cold some days since, and has had a bad cough. He thinks the prospect with regard to his preaching on the morrow is rather dubious; and beside the two sermons in prospect for the Sabbath, two funerals are to be attended on Sunday. There have occurred two deaths in town to day - quite an unusual event. One was a lady of more than 70 years, - a member of the church here, and always a consistant Christian. She had been a long time sick. The other was a young lady just 20 years old - a beautiful girl sick 12 weeks. A few weeks ago, she expressed hope in Christ: An interesting and promising young man, who bride she was to have been, called to day to talk with father. He had also indulged hope within a short time - some three months. But the clock has just struck twelve times, and I must not write longer. Good night. Here comes Monday morning. Washing and breakfast are done and when this letter is finished I must hie away to meet my little band of scholars. Since Saturday night the buds on the trees have become little leaves and a thunder shower last night made the grass look green. Father succeeded in speaking - miraculously, yesterday - said he had not spoken easier for six weeks. So we are blessed. I shall wait anxiously the result of your interview with Col. Mason, and to know what you decide to do this summer. I do not exactly fancy the idea of your being in the midst of such oceans of prairie as you wrote about. But if it seems best for you, I shall be content.
