User-Contributed Transcription Protecting from plague , and the Christian religion is protected by established law, so that there is no persecution. There was a time when those who acknowleged Christ must do it with the loss of all things literally. The goods of a merchant were thrown into the street, and himself not permitted to lay his finger on a single article which the rabble plundered all . They were turned out of their own houses into the street and not even permitted to remain there, but cast into prisons and loathsome dungeons affording no place to sit in, no place to stand up in, or to lie down in; where they must every moment be suffering, and tortured with pain. For Jesus' sake they bore all, and now brighter days have dawned upon these faithful followers of Christ. They now enjoy their religion unmolested, And they are faithful still. They have come out of fiery trials strengthened and purified. Mr. G. said, he had never visited the holy city, Jerusalem. It would have been pleasant, said he, could I tell you I had stood on Mount Zion: that my feet had pressed Mt. Olivet where Jesus wept over the devoted city: that I had walked about the temple and counted the towers there of; or could I show you an olive leaf from the garden of Gethsemane, or a handful of wild flowers from the interesting town of Bethany where Mary and Martha, and
