User-Contributed Transcription here, but I had not one idea of returning and was quite surprised when I found on reading my letter that they were anxious to have me come.But dear mother's health, they also wrote was delicate and in consideration of that and my own health and the decided wish of my parents, I decide to go home. I leave a glorious enterprise in the service of which I have been happy, and where though among strangers and far from relatives I have been perfectly contented. I have had some trials, but as consciousness that I was discharging my duty to the best of my ability has proved a balm for every wound. Now, providence favoring my designs I leave in a few weeks for my dear New Eng. and my home. With pleasure I could stay, and labor to be useful here, but duty calls me. May God preserve my precious mother's life, yet a long time.
