User-Contributed Transcription but very few days of severely cold weather, though a long time without much warm. For fifty consecutive days, ending the eleventh of February, the snow did not thaw at all in the streets! Twenty-seven below zero is the coldest weather we have had & that only one or two mornings. John Furber wrote that for the fortnight preceding the 25th of Jan. 10 below was the warmest morning & most of this time it was from 30 to 40 below - The last time Father wrote, the mercury was frozen up - by spirit thermometer 40 1/2 below. Sam'l has been at Searsport about three weeks in all, loading vessels - only a few days at a time, however - expects to go again soon - You wont, of course, think of going west to stay, without just popping down here to see us first. I long to peep in upon you & see how you & Nettie look keeping[left-hand side]sayings hereafter - Affectionately - Your loving sister Lucy-
