User-Contributed Transcription one of these days. You say Cousin Maria has written to me. When? Samuel visited Hampden P.O. frequently though all our letters, with one or two exceptions came to Bangor. He has written to the Hampden P.M. to forward any letters, so if she has wrote since e came from there I shall get it. After waiting a reasonable time, I will write to her again. You inquire what I am reading. Jos. sent me "Allison's History of Europe" the other day, from the Mercantile Library, which I read with much pleasure, or should do so, were it not, like all History, filled with accounts of "wrong and outrage," shedding of innocent blood, and all the horrors of anarchy and war. I read last night till I was faint and sick, and had to put the book away - all about the butchery of all the Paris prisoners, and the execution of Louis. Well - will you tell me what "house" is on the English throne now. Have'nt I read something about a contemplated, or wished-for alliance, among some of the royal families, which would bring one of the old houses to the throne again. If so, I have forgotten what. Again, you ask how many people will be benefited by our writer's residence in Milo. I don't know Isaac. I don't feel as though I did much good in the world anywhere. Perhaps I am wrong that I do not mingle more in the society. But I don't love to. Besides most everybody that I used to know here has gone away, and their places are filled by those with whom I am unacquainted. I keep close at home from choice, and have no one to good to but Alfred. I try to help him when he gets puzzled about his sums. We have good Baptist preaching nearly all the time this winter, and quite an interesting Bible Class.
