User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Sept 9th 1851Dear Brother IsaacOne week ago tomorrow morning at six oclock, Samuel and myself stepped on board the good steamer Governor and journeyed as far as Searsport, where, after waiting some two hours, we took passage in the Lawrence for Deer Isle, arriving at the landing there at the port one o'clock. From there we were transported in by no means an easy coach and by very far from smart horses, four miles to "the town" or N.W. Harbor as it is called, where we went to a nice quiet boarding house to which we had been previously directed. Our landlady was a very small woman and likewise very smart. Her husband has been dead seven years. She has one little boy eleven years old, one solitary Canary and one black cat with four white feet & a white nose, which individuals constitute her whole household, except when some invalid or pleasure seeker makes her house a temporary home. There are Deer Isle and little Deer Isle and Isle of Hant, all considered to be the town of Deer Isle, and containing some 4000 inhabitants. N.W. Harbor, where we were, is the principal place I believe, besides which there is S.W. Harbor, N.E. Harbor, the landing, the Reach, Burnt Cove &c. &c. You have prob-ably heard before now, that owing to too much care & fatigue, Samuel got run down, and was considerable
