We like Maria better and more day by day - she has been with me a good deal during Eliab's absence. She "knows what's what" perfectly, has everything just so, is a very complete little body (little, I say, for she never weighed more than ninety seven pounds) and withal loving & kind and good, one of the dearly loved sisterhood. I wish you could both be acquainted with her personally. she is a famous hand to take care of Percie - had almost the whole care of her youngest brother when an infant, & understands the whole category of baby talk, baby medicines &c. &c. I am getting along finely - have walked across the room one or more times every day for some days - have not been out to ride yet, but hope to in a few days. I am so glad I do not have to resort to the bottle for the baby as Albina does. This is a strangely jumbled up letter - I cannot tell you how many times I have left it since I began - The season here is unusually forward. The grass & foliage has a brilliancy and freshness which we do not see every year. The little Corydalis you sent, Nettie, is so pretty & so odd - "Dutchman's
