User-Contributed Transcription Hampden June 21st 1848,Dear Brother Isaac Your welcome letter of the 28th ult. and 4th inst. was duly rec'd. I began to wonder whether my friends had all forgotten me because I am married! It is five weeks today since I began my sojourn here, and not one word have I heard from our folks at Milo since I left there, except that little note you brought from Albina. What does it mean? I have written the fifth letter to them today! Neither have I had a letter from dear Mother. She wrote to some of the folks as soon as she arrived at Warwick, but Jos. sent it to Milo before I saw it. I was most sick with "hope deferred" waiting for your letter, but it came at last. You were indeed fortunate about finding your Pocket Book. I should so love to see Northfield. I love to look at beautiful places and things, and I love too, to stay at home - perhaps too well. You inquire if I suffer from solitude these long days. I do not suffer from that cause, and never did. The days are, and seem long, to be sure, & I am very glad to see Samuel when he comes home, but I enjoy myself nicely - am contented and happy. I am sure I would not allow myself to be unhappy from being alone. Did I wish to be unhappy, I would try to find a better reason! I am sorry you have been so hurried in your business. Don't make yourself sick and nervous again, so as to have to take chloroform! Suppose I must[left-hand side] Next time I write to you, which will be immediately after recieving your next letter, I'll try to have a better pen, and make it look more decent. I have got in a very careless way of writing lately. Be a dear good Brother, as you always are, and write often to us, won't you?
