User-Contributed Transcription One day this week the School house caught fire on the roof. Frightened the scholars half to death. Another day the plastering fell down on our heads. They ought to have a new schoolhouse. Also some curtains. The children trouble me much looking out the windows. Do write to me, also to Milo. Mother told me to mention to you whether you had not better ask Mr. Tash for the chance to go in there as Assistant again, lest you get no better chance. In haste Goodbye Most affectionately Sister LucyJuly 9th 1845 5Bowd. Call. Mr. Isaac S. Metcalf Miss. L.H. Meetcalf Brunswick Bangor Maine July 6th 1845[Postmark] BANGOR ME JUL 8[right side] A Miss Wilder, daughter of the Wilder that lately moved into Milo, keeps the school in the village. Is boarded at Hartwell's for .50, per week and washing done. It is outrageous for me to pay so much here. I make very little trouble as a boarder. Write much & often. Lucy[bottom of page] The boys tell me I need not keep Wednes. afternoons--that they don't anywhere else in the city & I know they do not in the district below here, but I understand that if one reason people were dissatisfied with you, because you did'nt keep all the Wednes. afternoons. I don't intend to keep only till 3 o'clock at any rate. I guess Joseph has got a good place that he had better keep if he can. As to Eliab, I don't know. I am afraid he won't learn any good of Frank, & if he has principle enough, as I hope he has, to do right at all events, perhaps he will be no injury to him. People about here give him the name of being rather a knavish fellow.
