User-Contributed Transcription Hampden Sept. 29th 1848.Dear Brother Isaac It is a cold, windy rainy day - A real Autumn rain storm. I am all alone - the first time excepting part of a day since a week before I went to Mass. Mehtiable came, you know, before I went away - staid a week after I got back and Mother went home with her, which by the way, was a bad move as it turns out. She heard that Charles was lame & the baby sick, so she was in a quick hurry to get home, but they were both better, and she might have staid and made me a good visit as I expected she would, and then it would have been so nice for her to be here when Anne was fixing away - but we can't help it now. Well after they went home Olive came and spent a week. Then John came & carried her home to get ready to go to Wisconsin, and Anne came and staid most a week after she had closed her school. Almeda has been down too - came & staid two or three days to see Anne & help her. Now Olive has been here more than a week waiting for the man in whose care she goes out. She started this morning. She has a long journey before her, and not a very pleasant season. Am afraid 'twill be stormy a good deal. So you see I have not had a chance to be lonesome since I came home - expect 'twill come upon me now though. You don't know how it seems to think there is no Anne at Bangor for me to go and seem or to come and see me. I miss her about everything - I never did anything without
