User-Contributed Transcription Lucy. Bangor Sept. 8 1853 Du Quoin, Sept. 20, 1853 Bangor Sept. 8. 1853.Dear Sister Nettie I have been trying for many days to find time to write to you in answer to your kind and good letter received the night before Mother and Anna went away. These little "barbarians" will take the time and strength, as you doubtless know as well as I do. By the way I am very sorry that Isaac is so much disappointed in his hopeful son; I can only refer him for consolation to the last line in the Educational chapter of Proverbial Philosophy, which if I mistake not is a favorite book with him. "Expect disappointment, and look for pain; for he is of an evil stock and will grieve thee." Seriously, though I was glad to hear so good an account of the little "filly" - how I do wish I could see him. Wish you had named him for Coigne, for oddity's sake, though I like Mayo well. Mother & Anna, Eliab & Maria left Bangor Thurs. the 25th of Aug. Eliab returned the following Monday. Maria has been visiting her friend in Easthampton - is expected next[left-hand side and top] oldest daughter. She is much more profitable and agreeable help than Mrs. G. proved to be. Almeda complains that she is so seldom hearing from you. She is very sad. More than I ever saw and lonely since Lissie came away. Do write to her when you can . In haste with much love. sister Lucy.
