User-Contributed Transcription mended I conclude by the strict watch kept over the cattle, and by the oft repeated complaints which greet my ears, of damage done in the fields. The Posy Patch flourishes far beyond my expectations. It is very fine, am greatly obliged for your labors last spring, - yet I feel almost inclined to rebuke you for sowing seeds so promiscuously and so very thick that they can hardly grow at all! The Perrenials & Biennials have looked and continue to look splendidly. The dear Orchis is now in full bloom, perfuming the air, with its fragrance, as so also the pinks and sweet Peas. Sweet Williams, Lilies and Canterbury Bells are very handsome. Our Cactus (Prickly Pear) is in blossom - looks finely. The flowers are not quite as large as I expected. Delicate straw colour, about the size of a common wineglass. About sixty buds. Seven blossoms out this morning. The "Cabbage Orchard" I believe does not amount to much. We have Rhubarb pies and sauce in great abundance,. The reason Mother does not write was perhaps given in her last, was it not? Have I suitably answered your questions? About the Herbarium, I felt very sorry I could not find it, but if you are coming home to bring it I will not care. Shall rejoice much if I can have your assistance about mine. As for a Bigelow, I suppose I have'nt got one, for I believe I don't even know what a "Bigelow" is! Please inform me. I am a poor ignorant girl.
