User-Contributed Transcription Milo 1843 1843 FoxcroftDear Brother Issac As Joseph is going to Foxcroft today, Mother takes this favourable opportunity to rebuke you, through me, for studying too hard, and doing sundry other evil deeds which she suspects you are guilty of; such as neglecting to call upon certain young ladies etc. etc. the which according to all rules of politeness you are in duty bound to do. Also when we earnestly desire, and have frequently requested to know what studies you are pursuing, you have in all your epistles, neglected to communicate said information. You are therefore rebuked accordingly, while at the same time we hope you will do better in future. By no means stand upon your dignity with regard to school, for it will be a slippery foundation. Ann says, presume not to ask more than twenty dollars or thereabouts, lest you should lose the school, as the renowned C.M. Stevens, could get only twenty, and it will be vain for your to aspire to be greater than he! Ann says be sure and engage that or some other school speedily lest all the good ones should be engaged. Also the one at 4 corners, for Joseph if possible. We have thought considerable lately (or Mother and Ann have) of taking the baby (Eliab) and going to Massachusetts to spend the winter; Mother & Ann would visit about, and Eliab would board at Uncle Jacob's and go to the high school this winter, and in the spring go in with Chauncey Chase or some one else in Boston as Apprentice. This is all very fine to talk about, but I fear the plan will not go into execution for lack of funds. We want to know what you are studying, and why you
