User-Contributed Transcription but owing to education, & to the people and example of our most excellent Mother, my taste is so much more refined! That I cannot enjoy, in common with the generality of these people, the low talk & jesting - it deserves not the name of conversation - not to mention profanity, which abounds among both sexes. This place is not to be compared to Hobhood for mental culture & intellectual refinement! Not to speak of morality and religion. I know of but two professors of Religion in the Neighborhood; - Mrs. Clark & Mrs. Sherburne. O think it must be injurious to any one to be situated as I am. I fear I am stationary or going backward, rather than advancing, in wisdom and knowledge, both as related to the mind and heart. Juliet Dudley's health is very poor. They fear she is in Consumption. I fear I do wrong. Tell me what you think about it. Ought I, as a christian, to subdue my feelings, forgive & forget, & call on them, or not? They have certainly been rude & unkind to me. All the neighbors notice it. It seems to me it would look like creeping after them; notwithstanding I don't
