User-Contributed Transcription There is a good deal of religious interest here in all or nearly all the churches. There have been a good many conversations, but these is no noise or excitement. There are a good many meetings - morning evening and day. I can hardly contend myself to be shut up here unable to enjoy any of them. Our church is going on in earnest about building a meeting house. They will probably have considerable assistance from the other churches. The Unitarian church is to be rebuilt, of wood, this summer. Also, I believe, a Roman Catholic Cathedral up on Broadway, and perhaps a chapel for the Seminary. The heater lot above East Marks square is to be graded and beautified, and there is some talk of getting a gas factory going and lighting the streets with gas. If you receive the Courier, which Samuel ordered sent to you, you get all the Bangor news. We take the daily Courier and the Independent. The latter is a most excellent paper. I wish every body could read it. From the Library I have now Carlyle's "past, present and Chartism" also Grace Aguilar's "women of Israel" neither of which I like very much. My health is improved
