User-Contributed Transcription realities, gleaning something daily mid them all, for future fun & soberness, & shake the "napkin" or maybe turn, "Homesickness" had not prevented me writing more but the want of leisure has, which has been a great self denial. Notwithstanding you would be surprised to know the pages I have prepared weekly for home friends. The Doe's & the Pa's & Ma's are numerous you know. On a little eminence, less than a half mile distant - clusters a black smith & wheelright shop, two hotels, church, small Congregational only one of the place, & P. Office - Eastern mail arrives Monday's Eve & Thursday's noon, & there myself straightway moves through the tall tangled grass, perchance birds numerous & flocks thitherwards, Many a light?, & many a damsel, I meet there at such times, pedestrian & equestrian there's novelty here everwhere & I must not indulge in a hint at it hardly,lest I immediately dip too deeply & make my letter too late for the mail. Just now glancing out upon a winding prairie "bridle path" road, I see a long beggar tent covered very white drawn by long procession of cows, oxen , emigrating to the farther west. It has a sad & sorrowful look to me. I pity the children & mothers. They camp at night in the damp earth kindling a fire to cook their scanty fare for life's support. "O, the mystery of life"! Such Scenes are of daily occurrence. Now the items of yr. kind letter which is widespread before me must be attended to, firstly much love to all the friends who think of me enough to "wonderment" at my silence. Louise Shaw shall have tidings soon. Please see her when you can, & if this hasty letter contains an idea toss the said idea to her, the dear lovely Mrs. Webster has
