User-Contributed Transcription Tuesday P.M. Glenburn March 14th/ 51Lucy Lute darling dear, I would like much to know how you are body & spirit this sunny day. Are you out about, gathering - flowers there are none, but icicles all in the little chinks. - Because yr. Mother is doating tender & kind you must'nt think to play lady " no, not by no means," Lucy. I really think I'd rather be well, working than sick. - I perceive my discourse is leading me not to sobriety, for life is too great a boon to be lightly spoken of. When yr. husband call'd to see me bringing your kind letter, I was not well, afterwards quite sick, but for the last two weeks steadily progressing in health & strength. Six weeks ago, I was awakened from my slumbers coughing, immediately I began spitting blood, in a few moments raised more than a gill? I was soon checked however by sale. I was not at all alarmed for I supposed it some little ruptured vessel of the stomach. It was Saturday of the next week I had no school lounging upon the sofa reading I, intending the following Monday to enter upon school duties. Sat. I wrote to Ma a long letter which caused severe pain in left lung. I could only rest in bed lying on my face, had no Physician till Sabbath. On one week after the attack that day arose. Dr. Rich sneior said there was a spot of congestion in the left lung, ordered irritating plaster etc. etc. I sat up but little for one week
