User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Sept. 22nd 1842Ever dear and never forgotten Friend Nothing could have induced me to believe when I saw you last that so long a time would have elapsed without my writing you. The causes of this neglect have been various. It surely has not been because I have not thought of or wished to hear from you, but in part for want of convenient opportunity. Until the latter part of the term my time was wholly taken up, for besides my regular studies I have considerable to make up by being absent the last of the spring term and the first of the summer and in addition had no trifling task to perform in writing an address, pronounced before my Class at the close of our freshman year. After the term has considerably advanced I neglected to write, thinking I should be able to visit you in the vacation; but circumstances have conspired so as to oblige me to forgo this pleasure. My roommate Mr. Gould of Dixmont, being desirous that I should teach near him the coming winter, last spring when at home partially engaged a school for me in his town a short distance from were himself proposed to teach. And being encouraged with the prospect of having one or two singing schools to teach at the same time I have been to Dixmont and engaged the school at twenty dollars per month for three months. And have the promise of several to interest themselves in getting up one or more singing schools. I came from
