User-Contributed Transcription more company I have & the more there is to do, the garden she grows - but the, she can't well help it, when I am always good and pleasant to her, & I talk with her & let her keep me calculate just enough to please her. I am sad to think of her going away. Well, I am not through yet - Yesterday immediately after I returned from Eliab's (according to intimation had two days before ) a hack stopped at the door, and there from emerged two of Samuel's cousins from Newton Mass. James and Mary Sykes - he 22 years old - a smart, fashionable sprig - book-keeper at Newcomb's, corn and flower dealer, State St. Boston, she a very pretty girl of seventeen with a round smiling face, pretty brown hair, with an abundance of natural ringlets, all over her head and shoulders. They are very easy & at home, so we get on nicely- don't know how long they will stay- suppose three or four days. I thought we were to have no company this summer. As you may suppose, I don't do much but keep things straight. This P.M. is appointed to go on a ride to Old Town - I don't know whether I shall go myself or resign in favor of Lizzie, and take the time to recruit myself. Lizzie was not very well for a few days, but at Mrs. Packard's instigation, I cured her with raspberry leaf tea. Mr. & Mrs.P. are both in feeble health. Mr. P.
