User-Contributed Transcription so as to know how to treat him & make explanations. Oct. 14 Eliab & James arrived last night in the driving rain. Pendleton and Ross forgot to pay Lincoln. Eliab is going to see him today, settle with him, and then train him soundly for sassing me. The chickens are nice. I prepared them wholly myself & they are now cooking for dinner. Eliab said last night that the others stinked. I don't know what he has done with them this morning. That Christopher & his father are very provoking certainly, but I am afraid the lawsuit will cost more than it will come to before Charles is through with it. I recollect distinctly hearing Charles tell him he could not pay anything till winter, and Chase said it was all right, only if the boy wanted some little articles of clothing he should want Charles to get them. I think he mentioned a pr. of boots. The honey is nice. Samuel has taken one pr of gloves. The rest will be attended to in due season. You did not write how Albina liked her things for Charlie. I got up stairs yesterday alone - you see I am quite smart. Frances has almost given out with her wrist. When I told her // for the dress, she said she did not think it would be more than a dollar. I told her it was worth // to me besides the trouble of making, as I should have to get another next spring. I don't know whether she will take it. 15 - The Mooly is eating meal, and James waiting to see if it will be pleasant today. Eliab saw Mr. Lincoln
