User-Contributed Transcription My only reason for not contradicting, in fact, Anna's statements in regard to myself, is that you are left to believe that I am pretty naughty and bad off, you will be more likely to come soon. I have been very well - heretofore - don't know what ailed me yesterday. - mostly fright I guess, because I felt a little strange - well enough this morning - but we do want you to come very much, as soon as the travelling will admit. You must know it seems very lonely here when Samuel is away. It was very sad about those two men being drowned - one an Irishman of this place - a great parade and funeral - six hacks and 28 chaises - the other a young man from Know - his cousin went home with his body last Wednesday night, with a horse & waggon which Samuel furnished here, and has not yet returned - we cannot imagine why - keeping the horse so long will make a good deal of expense, though Samuel expects his friends will bear part of it. The whole quite an expense - three or four men, the boats & three days time down to Mattawamkeag (where Samuel met them) and back - an inauspicious commencement of their winter's operations. Samuel has now gone with ten men ( part hired for the purpose and part to remain there) to take in
