User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Apr. 8 - 1854Dear Mother I have intended for some days to write to you, but kept delaying so as to write the decisions of the husbands in regard to business. Eliab wrote a few lines hastily the other evening because baby would not let me as I intended - he has had several excellent situations offered him lately, particularly those at N. Haven and Pottsdam, N. York, but as this also seemed favorable, Samuel rather desired it and it was Mallie's choice, he decided to remain here. I suppose it is rather a large trade for them, but they hope to get along comfortably with it. Eliab is going to Boston again Monday to purchase goods. He had just got out business cards, hired a stove & wharf and put up a big sign as a shingle dealer. Our neighbor, Mr. Martin is out of a clerkship and they think some of employing him. Eliab & especially Mallie, want very much to keep house, & as Eliab considers himself located[left-hand side and top] day or two since, desiring him to find her a school - would prefer an annual one - he spoke to the Committee here, but there were no vacancies - I suppose wages are higher here than there, then a "prospect is not without honor," you know. Rebecca Raynes (the dress maker was married a few days since by the city clerk at four o'clock P.M.. Her husband took tea with her & at seven the same evening started for the west to be gone several weeks. How did you succeed in making your cinnamon cordial? How is Mr. Sargent and would not that be good for him? Tell Albina Bell Furber is to be married the middle of this month. What is the conclusion about
