User-Contributed Transcription is not far, in some cases, from being a trial. Though given with perfect willingness, the feeling that I am receiving what others need and want, is not pleasant. In exchange for this, I expect other, different, severer trials. I don't know as it is wrong for me to anticipate some happiness. I certainly expect much disappointments. As you say, all have troubles & cares, and every heart "knoweth its own bitterness." I think a good deal of Ann with regard to these things. Many of her sad feelings we cannot understand - or at least, not as she does. Almeda, too, has her full share. I think sometimes that men in business, have greater anxieties, cares and responsibilities, while women have the lesser ones, a great many of which are as hard to bear as one great one; - they, too, it seems to me, have more trials of the feelings than men - but perhaps I don't know. The business part of your last was duly attended to last eve. With regard to the sheep, I had nothing else, and no way to get anything. I disposed of them to Mother and Almeda two to the former & one to the latter, to get the shirts which I sent to you, and with which you have credited me. I don't know what I can do. I know you are in want of money, and have worried & worried about in how I could pay you but I have nothing of my own. Mother will write to you something about the sheep, she says. Your advice about a knowledge of pecuniary matters being desirable is duly appreciated; such knowledge every woman ought to possess; we know not what may be, but I should think, & most any one would suppose the probabilities much stronger than the opposite might take place in a few years than that I should become a widow. It is certain any prospect of long life is not as good
