User-Contributed Transcription Milo Jan y 24th 1848.Dear Brother Jos. I put a letter in the Office for Ann this morning, but Almeda is just going over to see her elder Lord about bring of come Flour etc. for her, so I'll scribble a word to you. Am disappointed again today about going to Bangor. Might have gone in a wagon, but thought it most too cold, as I am not very well. Hope we shall have snow before long. I wrote Anna all the news - you will see it - about small pox etc. etc. The linen you mention will do to make common bosoms - not very nice. One yd will make a pr. I think there was linen enough left of that you sent last summer to make two or three collars, Will you send a pattern how you wish them made, also directions as to manufacture of bosoms. Whether you like small plaits, like those in your shirts, or still smaller or larger. Don't Eliab want some more made? Perhaps he had better send it by Samuel. when he comes, if you see him. You say in your last "don't be foolish." I don't mean to be. I had a good deal of you, intending to teach school and repay you. My health was not, and is not now sufficient for it. I talked to Mother about it, and worried, but could do nothing. Things are just as they are. I have nothing for myself, or others, and Mother can make nothing available for them or me at present. Says when she can, will help make restitution for what others do for me. Some things are necessary, others perhaps expedient. But I must'nt stop to say more. Almeda is waiting, Good bye. I mean to write to Eliab this week. Affectionately sis Lucy. I want you to change the boots and get no. 13 I send some more butter which I want you to sell for me I send my flour by Mr. Lord and want you should send a broom too.
