User-Contributed Transcription room at only 20, per month, and has applied for and expects to get midshipman berth. Uncle Peletiah's, Jacob;s and Joseph's folks are all well. Josiah is teaching in Royalston Prescott Metcalf died of consumption a short time ago. Cousin Addison is at work with Hannah's husband. Humphrey is teaching school - boards at home. Mariah is attending the Normal School at Lexington - going to stay a year. Mrs. Childs was smitten with a sudden fit of generosity; insomuch that she opened her heart and gave Eliab a broadcloth coat, pretty good, of Mr Child's, an old pr of pants, a nice comforter, a pr of gloves & a silver dollar as a remuneration for sundry errands done by him. To Mother she gave Calico for a dress, several yards of cotton cloth and a dollar in money etc. etc, to try to obtain a situation in Bangor again. You will please excuse the striking resemblance which this epistle bears to its Author, for I am hardly able to write at all.Jan. 6th I sent a letter to Isaac yesterday, & intend to send this with one to Mother, to the P.O. tomorrow. C. had not got the hay home yet. I cannot tell you exactly about your hay, grain etc. but Charles will be down in the course of a week or two, and you can obtain all necessary information from him. Isaac and Charles and, still higher authority, Mr. Tash, all think that you had better keep your school out, eleven weeks. Do you intend to go to Foxcroft in the Spring? I desire another letter from you soon, informing all about your school etc. great lubber you spake of. If I mistake not, you have a disagreeable sort of a girl there at Mr. Gibb's, that is unless she has "undergone a change" since about three years ago, when I saw her. You must give Isaac sundry items of advice when you write to him, for I conjecture he is sorely tried with so
