User-Contributed Transcription natural deficiency in Oratory and partly to the crowd, and improper finish of the room. He has not voice enough for a speaker, and what he has is not good. Do you reccollect how he used to murder Compositions, reading them, sometimes? Well, after the Address, lo! a Pic Nic dinner on the Island. A good long table plentifully supplied with common food, with a row of Maple trees on either side, planted for the occasion. All looked very well, arranged very properly - much better than I had expected. Dennetts, Hills, Greenleafs, Lowreys etc. were there, as was also your Uncle Kesiah! About six hundred in all it was said. Daniel Dennett made a long speech - or puff. Quite a number of toasts & Conundrums, some very apropos & pithy. Mr. Tash and sister came to our house to tea, and then went home in the rain leaving his parasol behind. On the whole, a very good time. People generally well pleased I presume. Thurs. A.M. rained hard, about noon cleared away - Sam and I journeyed back to Bangor, beguiling the tediousness of the way by pleasant converse upon subjects befitting the occasion! I stay at Mr. Shepherd's with Ann during my stay in Bangor, the length whereof is not yet fully determined - probably only three or four weeks. She pays my board, (though I mean to get rich & pay some back again) and I go to the school some, and some stay at home and sew. Ann making your shirts - most done - send them right on by Mr. Shepherd in about a week. When I go home, going to take some cloth & make you some more. Mother told me how destitute you were. Poor fellow! wish these could have been done for you to take with you. Must tell you while I think of it, Jimmy Newton
