User-Contributed Transcription Mr. Tappan one day when he was here about your Mr. Dretton. He knows nothing of him - thinks it must be another Tappan, as there are several in the ministry. I have got very little acquainted here - did not expect nor wish to - but it sometimes seems lonely to be so alone, but I enjoy myself, nicely, and am very happy. Samuel is every thing to me that I can wish, & you know if one is happy at home, 'tis the best kind of happiness, We have had quite a number of calls. Have'nt yet returned them. Samuel is very much confined at the Mill has a great deal of care, which you know wearies one more than work, if anything. Ann anticipates a great deal of happiness in her visit, & I presume will realise it. She loves a change - new scenes - and needs it I suppose - hers is a monotonous life. Well I must run get tea now. done up - Abby gone to bed - Jos. just arrived - Conversation all about shingles and "hard times" as usual - I, belonging to the Firm, feel interested of course. We have'nt had one bit of a letter from Charles or Albina since we came here. Almeda writes once in a long while. Had a letter from Naomi last week. Her health very poor. Kept school six weeks & left. Abby & her husband there now. We have written to Almeda to let her little Liz come and stay here a few weeks. Hope Olive or Mehitable will come soon. Maj. Furber has been quite unwell - was before he came out of the woods - is better now - coming down here I guess before he goes in the woods again. I've been to Sewing Circle once. May, perhaps, venture again as I was well treated there.
