User-Contributed Transcription Monday to be gone a week or more. Eliab went this morning to Sedgwick, Blue Hill, Deer Isle &c. to be gone three or four days. We have the Life of Douglass to read. Have you read it? Very interesting - Hattie sent up the Watchman, a sort of sequel to the Lamplighter, I believe, but I thought I could'nt afford time to read it. I went to see a certain book to be forthcoming sometime from "Derby's." He told Sam'l it would be published this month. Mr. Rider bought two books that I shall try to read - "Inside View of Slavery" and "The Refugee". did you see in the papers, or hear of the times we had at Bangor about Mrs. Rose's lectures? A "War of the Roses" in good earnest. I fear you thought strange that I did not send Mayo's rubbers, but Sam'l weighed them & found it would cost just as much as to buy a new pair. I shall tuck in the little
