User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Oct. 31, 1852 Bangor Oct. 31- 1852Dear Mother It is sabbath day - all are at meeting except myself and Jane. I kept her at home for the purpose of doctoring her head with grease! Among other evils, she has got shockingly lousy by going to school. Yesterday I cut her hair all off close, & had her scruff thoroughly in hot soap suds - and today have combed and completely saturated her hair with grease. The term is but three weeks longer. I hardly know whether to have her finish or not. She has not learned near so much as she would have done at home. Yesterday Anne did a lot of baking and I made quince preserves and some apple jelly for our company, which we contemplate inviting this week intend to ask Elizabeth Jenks with them - she is spending some weeks in Bangor- called here last week. Samuel bought a dear little stove for the chamber yesterday -can be open or an air tight at pleasure - only $7.50 small. What do you do for a stove? I am afraid your room is not comfortably fixed. Guess I shall come up and see by and by, and make you
