User-Contributed Transcription only I could'nt help worrying all the while of eating them about your poor bended backs in the heat and among the flies. O, they were so nice. I picked a nice boquet of the last roses of summer and sent don to Mallie tonight, with such other flowers as the garden afford. O, Mother I wish you could see our garden - it never looked half so well before. In my department there is hardly a weed, big or little to be found. I do "dig about and dung" things unweariedly and they reward me for my pains. We have got a gutter put up by the shed, the ground enriched, and tonight Samuel and I put out the grape vines. There were seven or eight fine sprouts. My " queen of the prairie" that I tho't so much of, proves to be a "Baltimore Belle" - a very delicate and handsome rose, but not so high a runner nor so rich a rose as the other.
