User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Nov. 1 53 Bangor Nov. 1 - 1853Dear Mother Your good long letter was yesterday received. Much, very much, obliged. Wish I could get as long and particular a one every week. But about Jane - I feel ever sad. I can hardly keep from crying every time I think of her - poor, unhappy girl! What will become of her? Samuel says if he could only spare the time, he would take her right to Dover, find her mother and leave her there. As for going to Mrs. Anstris, I don't know, but it seems to me if she is ever coming back to our family at all, to live with any of us, she will not be any better for going away & carrying on just as she pleases all winter. I don't know, I don;t know, what can be done with & for this poor child. I invited Maria to take her yesterday! Her sympathies were so much roused for a poor little spanish girl in [left-hand side and top] and tree, with tow-boats, ropes and hundreds of men - liners, sc? and what not, all to no purpose - the ways were not sufficiently greased. Samuel said. It went off next day but none of us saw it. Owing to neglect in the builders of our church, the large beams 65 feet long were not properly tied together & jarred by the tremendous wind of last Monday night, one beam sprung off two inches letting for flooring timbers & plastering door. Injured many pews & had it been in time of service must have killed many people. It was a sad accident.
