User-Contributed Transcription being the family, as I understand it. Her mother has married & moved away, her grandmother died - the Aunt knew about Jane, the grandfather never did & don't now. They never intend to own her, but let her board there till they could find her another place. The aunt seemed to be a very good sort of person - began lecturing Jane with some severity of manner almost immediately, about all girls that boarded with her being obliged to keep good company etc. Samuel then told her she had been a wayward troublesome uneasy girl always, but said nothing of any bad conduct. I don't believe Jane will have been there a week before she tells her grandfather who she is! She is to have from half a doll. to a dollar a week besides board while learning - according to how she does. The journey cost Sam'l 16 dollars, besides something before she went away - he said he considered it a good bargain at that! though it does seem too bad. I rather grudged the expense - I wanted the money for a new gown! Don't think of any
