There has been a rainy shower in consequence of which Mr. Bartlett and Mr. Brie of Hampden were driven in here for shelter, and here they have been for two mortal hours to my especial "discomfort." Mrs. Griffiths was all in the suds, washing floors etc., and I was forced to nurse the baby before them (as I could not carry him behind them) besides giving him a sugar rag most all the time to keep him quiet. Now they are gone, he is as clever as can be! Why don't you send love to Mrs. Griffith? She is truly kind, considerate and Christian - some things exceptionable in every body, but I do like her very much. I am much favored in getting her - she wears well. You need 'at twit Jane about it, but how much quicker the dishes do get washed nowadays. Mrs. G makes nothing of doing Jane's work. It is really matter of astonishment to one that she is so very slow. I hope she will get up a little more energy up there - Does she do well with the children? Lizzie Doe was in last Saturday, brought me a fine bunch of flowers, which I desired her to take to Maria's as I had some already. She has been to Portland to the ? meetings- Mrs. Crosby and Margaret went. Lissie was treated shamefully by Prescot Shepard. We have the Miss. Herald. Samuel is entitled to it for what he paid for For. Miss. He sent for the Christian Mirror today. "Do baby's eyes grown blacker or whiter?" They grow bluer & lighteer and his hair grows browner & lighter every day. He looks quite plump and white compared with what he
