In the full possession as the poet sings, of the only bliss that has survived the Fall.Yesterday a rain storm commenced the first for about three months. It continued through the night, - whether it will conclude to-day I know not. I should be rather heart sober but for the blessed privilege of spending the hours in spiritual communication with old home friends. I read a while, then just laid the book away, because I could get more happiness from writing. I hope yr. Sam; is enjoying restored health. I followed you in your Island excursion with much interest. That "woman" was a curiosity shop, really hope her mission ground will be unmistakably pointed out. Oh! Oh! Oh! the startling contrasts & varieties of character in this little world. I've seen more the last two yrs, than my life long, before. Headly says of earth (you know) " that it seems the middle spot between heaven & hell, the song of angels, & the shriek of fiends go up from the same spot". How I did like, loathe the littleness mean, withered soul specimens, U meet & mingle with such, for they are here, & everywhere so that the contact seems unavoidable. My head at this moment aches with memories of such human specimens mid that symetry, beauty and richness of nature in this western valley. I was interested in reading this morning, thoughts emenating from one of the good & great souls. He would fain better the world & his fruitful imagination suggested a great bonfire on a broad prairie. The article was
