User-Contributed Transcription his last letter by saying he had good hope of his recovery. Chicago is about 100 miles from here. I wish I could be with him but do not think of going at present, -b gentleman from this Village, was there last week & saw my afflicted brother. He lies in bed most of the time in a stupor in part induced by medicine, no movements even of returning reason. His heart was one of the most generous & best, but he was not a christian. We cannot reasonably hope he will ever be the same again, but I cannot help the hope of a partial restoration, that his soul may be given to his Savior, & so pass away peacefully to his home in heaven. I'm waiting the farther progress of the disease, so you may please not speak of this letter to any one at present. I think I shall remain in this vicinity the winter. I shall be very glad to hear from you often. Direct to me, Lamville Bureau Co. the P.O. is kept by a "widow lady." - I often sit with her & read Eastern papers etc. I am not visiting in Mr. Patterson's family. Mrs. G. is sister to Mrs. Tasker of yr. city. I ride on horseback or otherwise wherever I like, find pleasant friends & enjoy them. I suppose, as usual time is wearing away pleasantly with you. I know, remember and
