User-Contributed Transcription with him was also in poor health & the lady where they had boarded, wearied with her cares. The first 6 weeks I had a very good boarding place, employing my time, making of mending, knitting, cooking etc. for the brothers who undertook to keep "Back" till they could get things ready for me. Meanwhile one had boils, & the other Ague & I felt decided I'd dwell with them. When we meet, I'll amuse you with a graphic description of Western life. We have a cottage, of brick, all unfinished, is a half mile from neighbors, farms are laid out in sections & quarter sections, the latter containing 80 acres. My brothers' lost is a half mile East & west, a fourth North & South, the neighbor's likewise, & although it is called a village, you perceive there cannot be much of the rattle, bustle & din of city life. Our immediate vicinity is the highest land in the state, a rolling prairie height as the natural scenery around, distant & interesting, is very beautiful indeed. If yr "chair" was only here, I'd wheel you to the door of my cottage & suffer you to extend yr. vision nearly 30 miles. An undulating Prairie, dotted with the oak graves called "Openings". beautiful as the park of an English nobleman. I can distinguish horses, settlements, twelve miles distant. I do not embellish. I am charmed with this spot of earth & you would also be, that circumstances keep me within doors & household duties occupy me thoughts so much. My taste, inclination lead me to move, ride & write to my friends of the things so beautiful here. But hen I'll hasten to fulfill life's Mission of rigid stern
