User-Contributed Transcription Hampden Oct. 30th 1849.Dear Brother Isaac Your last letter was duly received - For which favor please accept my hearty thanks. Really you hardly give me any credit at all for my last letter. Ten pages too! I am almost discouraged - about trying to write enough or often enough to satisfy you. But let that drop. Our dear brother Joseph, as you doubtless know before this time, has taken the decisive step, and gone to Waterford. I do hope it is best for him, and try to feel so - but it did seem at first, as though I could not have it so, that he had gone without my seeing him once more. We hoped to get to housekeeping before he came, and have him come and stay a number of days with us before he went farther, but he thought it was getting so late in the season, he had better hurry right on, so he only stopped one night in Bangor, & we did not expect him until the next day. The first I knew of it, Charles came down here, and said he had gone in the Boat that morning. I had not the least idea that he would be able to come from Milo in a day, but Charles said he did not seem very tired. Perhaps on the whole, it was easier for hm than to have been longer on the road. Eliab said he seemed better when he got to Waterford than when he started - was very seasick & thought that did him good. I fear it was only the effort of fatigue and excitement, but perhaps the journey might actually benefit him. I almost felt as if I must go
