User-Contributed Transcription 6 ink - almost exactly like some medicine Dr. Mc Ruen prepared for me two years ago. When we came back from the mountain, Col. Cilley from Sebec proposed to give us a sail in an Indian birch - we of course gladly assented. I never was in a birch before - had to sit quite still on some folded blankets on the bottom of the boat. We had a delightful time - across the little pond and the big pond and up the Pleasant river two or three miles, which did bend & wind about so beautifully, forming perfect ox bows, again and again. Fine large old trees on the interval banks, almost meeting over our heads in some place. The birds sung beautifully, it was perfectly still hardly a breath of wind, and we did skim so lightly and swiftly over the water! I did not exactly wish I was a wild Indian, but I did not wonder they loved to "paddle the light canoe" across the dark water. And the Loons how they did holler. We saw three of them at some distance in the water and it sounded as if they were laughing at us just as hard as they could. I never heard one before. We came back and dined at the Tavern, rode down to Brownville and took tea at Mr. Sewall's and home. I wish you had gone up there - hope you will next time you come. I am very sorry cousin Charles could not have gone, Before I forget it let me tell you that Warren Furber is Speaker of the House of Representatives at Minnesota, Mr. Crocker who owns the state quarries at Brownville married a rich wife at S.C. and brought her to Ellen Brown's to board. She did not wait upon herself at all, not even make her own bed, and Ellen had to carry up a luncheon of rich cake
