User-Contributed Transcription the Hobblanders with a good digne of fortitude considerin'; though seriously, much as I may rejoice at being released from the labor and vexation of a school, and returning home, yet I can never part with my scholars, be they where they may, without sadness. I can never have the care of children without becoming attached to them- to some more than others, of course. And then the thought comes to me that I have not done all I might have done for their benefit, not only in enlightening their understandings, but in impressing moral and religious truth upon their minds. The teacher is generally an Oracle for the scholars. What she does or says is remembered, and a serious word from her lips is not soon forgotten. There is a great field of labor in the "Hindoo settlement," and a teacher must needs "use all circumspection" there I can assure you. My Flower Garden prospers finely. The Flox, Lilys, Monk'shood, Columbine, Orchis and pinks are in blossom. White strawberries are ripe. I never go there without thinking of you. You don't know how lonely it seemed here the next time I came home after you went away. More so perhaps, there having been so many at home together. The change was greater to find them all gone. But though distance may separate is from those we love, memory still lives, and brings vividly before the mind the sweet intercourse of former days; and hope, unfolding hope, points to the future with a sweet assurance that we meet again. We have had letters from Ann, Joseph and Eliab since they went back. They have doubtless written to you. Daniel Holman was married a few days since! E. attended the wedding. James' brother and sister, Gilbert and Rachel, were here to see Almeda week before last. I was at my school and did not see them at all. They visited at Mrs. Lee's. Charles went to Bangor last
