User-Contributed Transcription been at home. Never before since my remembrance have we spent a Thanksgiving with so small a family. Almeda and the children were here, but they reminded us more strongly o our loneliness. Two yeas ago we were all together. One had been taken, never to return; others are absent, and we know not that we shall ever meet again. Ere another year shall have complete its course, some of us may lie by his side in the silent grave. A feeling of sadness comes over me when I think of these things. I have brothers - dear, kind brothers - but they are far from me. I may never see them altogether again. Home is no longer where they live. They have gone, each to find a home, for himself. To be sure, they will come to see us once in a while, (often too, I hope) but we can no longer look forward to the time when they will come home to stay, as they used to. But I will desist, and be thankful that Heaven spares their lives, and health; and oh, may they be instruments of usefulness wherever they may be. Though we may be separated much of the time here on earth, it is comparatively a short season & of little importance, if we are prepared for a happy meeting in that land of holiness and joy where "parting is unknown," where "tears and farewells shall be o'er." I knew but little respecting your choice of an avocation for life, but was not prepared for so decided an opinion as you expressed against the Gospel Ministry. I don't know what is best, and am not capable of advising; may you be guided in all things
