User-Contributed Transcription of the young gentlemen, who also read their productions and declaim on the stand before the young ladies a great time I can assure you. I have nothing to do on that afternoon but sit down, and look and listen. There is a most excellent minister here Mr. Tinker a missionary some years in the Sandwich Islands, a good preacher, a very devoted man there is a good tone of religious feeling here, prayer meetings in different places, four evenings in the week. My board is $1.75 washing & ironing done; living good as I want. I have but one hour intermission, stop at noon, and keep all day every other Saturday, according to custom in these parts. I have neither French nor Drawing in school but shall probably have the former next term. I have begun to realize that I am again away from you all, and alone, do write to me much and often. I have worried some about the bonnets at Mrs. Jordan's fear they will not suit, if Almeda had written a not to Mrs. J. it would have been better, the change would have been less, - I did not see her. Write particularly about all the things: I feel bad not to wear mourning though I know it is best as it is - the dear brother is gone - his place is not more on earth, - how much I would give to spend one more day with him such as I did spend in that brief, happy fortnight I was at home. I want to hear from you all very much, how Lucy gets along, whether Eliab's lameness is better, whether Isaac is at Milo and about his prospects, and about Almeda and all the little folks. I think I have good reason to be thankful for the favorable and pleasant circumstances in which I find myself. How wonderful are the ways of Providence. My confident expectations of happy enjoyment at home, have been darkened, but I am provided for beyond my hopes in respect to school.
