User-Contributed Transcription which has been built 90 years. There are some very ancient looking buildings here. A real old fashioned meeting house - a congregationalist minister settled - has been here 18 or 19 years, his name is Adams. The only preaching they have in this part of the Island. Fresh fish are said to be abundant. Mackerel & some cod. Clams abound. Some say they are good every month that has an R in it, and consequently began to be eatable the first day of Sept. Others say they are at all times good. The boats are so arranged now that we can only get away from this place on Monday, except we go to Belfast, and from there by stage, which you know I can do. We shall probably remain until a week from Monday so we can hardly tell whether we receive benefit or not if we go away next Monday. It seems too bad to come right away to see so little of Eliab too. You must all take good care of yourselves. I get along as well as you can without your Pa and Ma. We shall want you to write to us - do not fail and direct to Deer Isle. That is the name of our Post Office. You had probably better write very soon after receiving this or we may not get it before we go home Friday morn - 9. A.M. Samuel does not feel so well this morning - he dipped himself in the salt water & got chilly before he got back to the house. He seems a little feverish, & did last night. If he is not gaining, we shall come next Monday. If we are ever so sick, we cannot get away before then. However, there is a Dr. here. Samuel has laid down & feels better - don't worry a bit about us. Mrs. Webb is so kind & good as can be. Aff - Lucy.
