User-Contributed Transcription respectable looking yenkee, drunk, lying in the gutter on the hard paving stones at the corner of Broadway and State streets. They got him up, quite chilled, helped him over to the watch house, made a fire, warmed him, found out who he was, and took him to the Hatch house to lodge this was about twelve o'clock. His name was Whitney, from Troy. The clerk at the Hatch house knew him & was greatly surprised to see him in such a state. The man appeared much ashamed, said he had not been so before for ten years. It is almost noon. I have swept and "put in order" the sitting room, "seen to the dinner", taken care of my vegetable plants and my "olive plant". The latter has had his nap, and now sits upon the floor with his little red flannel dress, white linen apron and bright eyes, making havoc with his box of playthings, crowing, laughing, squealing & grunting by turns as the fit takes him - he is a great hand to laugh out loud - loves to frolic dearly. To my partial eye, he is really quite a fine looking little boy! I don't feel
