User-Contributed Transcription Bangor Oct. 14. 1854Dear Brothers, I don't seem to remember how long it is since I have written to you, but I believe I have had letters from both of you since. We have been so confused in so many respects so long, that it seems sometimes as if I have no memory left. But how much, how much we have to be thankful for! I have felt it very much the last two or three days. Mr. Rider and Almeda came Tuesday to have a cancer taken from his lip. The operation was performed Thursday forenoon at Dr. Mc Ruen's Office, by him & Dr. Field. He was under the influence of ether, partially, but not so much as to render hm insensible. The adjusting after the cutting was done, was particularly so in this case as there was a very unusual[left-hand side] to have such an operation as Mr. Rider has- Dea. Thomas has just been in to see him. Do both of you write to them. This is very sad for them & it is so much to be feared that is is only the "beginning of sorrows." With much love, your sister Lucy. Charles, I expect in dust & ashes of all I said about your coming home, that trouble you. Albina teases us so much to write & urge you, that I fear we waxed too warm about it.
