User-Contributed Transcription Bangor April 25 '54 Bangor Apr.25 - 1854Dear Mother "You need not send that corn." I hope this letter will reach you before you have spoken to Mr. Ricker's people. Lizzie Thaxter has an orphan niece fourteen years old, who is, in a sense, on her hands. She is a very lovely disposition, pleasant girl, has been living in Bangor as a second girl sometime, understands her place and duties & would probably be much more serviceable to me than M. Ricker, besides I can have her today, which is more favorable. Lizzie is going away soon & feels very anxious to find her a good place. We shall give her fifty cents - a week, I suppose. Lizzie has a great many trials of one kind and another. Samuel has never liked the plan of getting Maria here very well. I hardly know whether on account of peculiarities in the family, or her eye, or the trouble of it. I have felt a little better yesterday & today. Percie is very good about going to sleep -seems to think that when he is laid down he must shut his eyes & sleep immediately - slept all night before last without waking, but worries & whines a good deal days, I intend to have Esther keep him out doors a good deal. In haste, with love, Lucy.
