It is said that Spiritualism is gaining ground very fast, though people are more silent than heretofore. Mallie sent Ann Page a sewing bird one day, which brought her up here, as we expected, not long after, but she said nothing of Spiritualism to us. Mr. Battles attend the circles as they call them.Mr Packard has preached half the day at our church for several sabbaths, I have not heard him yet. People like him very well; think him quite an original. Lizzie Thaxter came in this afternoon a little while - unbosomed herself freely. Her trials are hard to be borne as regards Mrs. Webster and her family. Then she is constantly and deeply anxious in regard to her husband. He was for a long time skeptical, you know, but has for months, as she think, been a sincere and earnest seeker after the truth and is yet in darkness. He is at time very much distressed, & all his old doubt come over him again. His anxiety at times affect his spirits & health, so that he has no appetite for food. Her boarding place is in many respects unpleasant. Mrs. Webster has been at Boston two months, away from her family, learning to use a sewing machine, whereby to pretend to earn her own living. Lizzie has had to attend to her house every day, and
