User-Contributed Transcription has now, to save trouble, taken up her abode there to remain till Mrs.W. returns. She is a strange, selfish, heartless woman- Lizzie is convinced now that her real character is precisely what Anna and I always told her it was. Thaxter is a fine, noble-hearted fellow, I pity him and Lizzie too. My sympathies are really roused for them & my indignation equally so toward Mrs. Webster.I never saw Lizzie feel so miserable as today. Abby Thaxter spent the day here last week, the same sweet, lovely girl. I know of none anywhere who will compare with her. I called and spent an hour with Percie at Mrs. Thaxter's when Samuel was at home before. Miss Blaizdill worked here two days last week, dressmaking, for Mallie & me. It is almost ten. Mallie and Isabel have gone to bed, my fire has gone to sleep, Samuel has not yet arrived - my feet are cold, eye aching & will stop. The Gum Arabic will make a quart of cordial. I should think; sugar & cinnamon to suit your taste, & wine or brandy enough to keep it & take off the flat taste. I am taking it for my benefit, have also one of Aunt Conant's plasters, which I think is beneficial. Please write often and particularly about everything, especially your own health. With much love - Your affectionate daughter Lucy.
