User-Contributed Transcription Your shirts are at last accomplished though it has been rather a lingering job, I hope they will fit well, we ought to have taken your measure especially for the collar and bosoms. We shall send them by Mrs. S. next week: she will visit her daughter Mrs. Dr. Ellis, and says she shall send for you to call as soon as she gets there so you must hold yourself in readiness as soon as she arrives, for having enjoyed her hospitality in some little degree, she has claims on your politeness.I am sorry you did not again call on Mrs. Veasie:- one must take a little trouble and pains to secure a footing on this earth, especially if one is not already encircled with influential friends: If I were were to undertake to give you some 'sisterly advice and counsel, I should say on this point for I fear you are deficient in improving your advantage in this respect, as I have been in many instances, there are things in the constitution of society and the ways of the world to make us feel indignant but I suppose true wisdom requires us to smother such feelings and thread our way along it tortuous course in that manner which will best secure our interest consistently with strict integrity of thought and feeling.I perfectly long for a ride into the country this beautiful season- am looking forward with fond anticipation to our projected excursion for the 4th, but have some fears that I shall have to take it all in anticipation which some say is better than reality, so I shall have the best past of the pleasure at that rate. I believe I have written a long letter enough to be all about nothing, so good byeAff.ly Sister Ann-
